Having operated in Australia since 1909, Mitsui Australia has long recognised its corporate responsibility to make a meaningful contribution to the betterment of society, particularly the need to build stronger ties and promote mutual understanding and friendship between Japan and Australia.
One of our most important community activities is the Mitsui Educational Foundation.
In 1971, the then Chairman and Managing Director of Mitsui Australia, Mr Koichiro (Ken) Ejiri, initiated proceedings to establish the Foundation, which selects students from nominated Australian universities to visit Japan for 21 days each year. The aim is to introduce these students to various aspects of Japanese culture, history, business and contemporary lifestyles, thereby helping to develop and expand the knowledge and friendship between Australia and Japan. 289 students have visited Japan since the MEF was initiated
