The Corporate area is responsible for Mitsui Australias "non-business" division functions. These functions cover two broad areas of activity - internal and external.
Internally services
include corporate planning, human resources, office administration and legal services.
Additionally we act as a resource centre in an advisory and coordinative
capacity by providing research, analysis and dissemination of information on political,
economic and social matters, with emphasis on the impact such factors may have on
Mitsuis business today and in the future.
Externally our focus is on
government, corporate and public relations, representing Mitsui in various associations
and forums.
As part of our corporate
responsibility, Mitsui is placing an increasingly high priority on environmental issues,
addressing them on two fronts. First, the company has long set the goal of harmonising its
activities with the environment. Second, Mitsui is working to contribute to the
preservation of the environment through its business activities, including plantations.
The heightened interest in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) over recent years can be seen as part of a fundamental re-examination of the function and value of companies in society. Companies create value by conducting business activities to earn trust and meet the expectations of their stakeholders. These activities should benefit all their stakeholders, including shareholders, customers and employees as well as communities, countries and the environment. We firmly believe that one of the roles of a sound company is to support this sustainable process.
